Musica da brividi (prima parte)

Nel mondo della musica ci sono davvero tantissimi aneddoti da brivido, ma molto spesso si tratta di leggende metropolitane. In questo articolo parliamo invece di alcuni episodi cruenti che sono stati oggetto di cronaca. (English version below)

Helter Skelter e la follia di Charles Manson

In C’era una volta… a Hollywood Tarantino ha provato a immaginare un finale alternativo al massacro di Cielo Drive. Ma la finzione filmica non è altrettanto mostruosa quanto lo è stata la realtà. La notte tra il 9 e il 10 agosto 1969 la family di Charles Manson si introduce nella villa dei coniugi LaBianca e compie una strage. Tra le vittime c’è anche l’attrice Sharon Tate, moglie del regista Roman Polansky che ha appena girato un film sulla venuta al mondo dell’ anticristo, Rosemary’s Baby (e già qua…brividi). Sharon è anche incinta, ma questo non ferma la furia omicida dei killer che sgozzano e sventrano tutti, in preda a una follia delirante simile a una giostra vorticosa (Helter Skelter è il nome di un attrazione da Luna Park). La scritta campeggia sul frigorifero dei LaBianca ed è stata tracciata con il sangue delle vittime. Manson dichiarerà di aver ascoltato ossessivamente White Album dei Beatles e di aver compreso che in realtà il testo di Helter Skelter preannunci una profezia su un imminente scontro razziale, nel quale i neri avrebbero avuto la meglio sui bianchi.

I Led Zeppelin e Boleskine House

In Scozia, sulle rive del lago di Loch Ness, sorge una residenza misteriosa, Boleskine House. La villa era appartenuta a un famoso occultista, Edward Alexander, più conosciuto come Aleister Crowley, il fondatore del satanismo moderno. Pare che in quella casa Crowley abbia celebrato riti di magia nera e che abbia scritto numerosi libri di esoterismo sotto dettatura da parte dei demoni. Già questo avrebbe dovuto essere un monito per tenersi alla larga dalla “casa stregata”, ma evidentemente non era abbastanza per un grande seguace di Crowley come Jimmy Page, che nel 1970 decide di acquistare la tenuta per farne la propria dimora. Ebbene la storia dei Led Zeppelin sembra sottilmente legata alla villa in questione. Negli anni a seguire oltre al successo, infatti, non mancheranno i tour mondiali annullati a causa di strani incidenti e lutti. Tra gli episodi più inquietanti ce ne sono tre che meritano attenzione: nel 1977 Robert Plant, dopo essersi appena ripreso da un incidente mortale in macchina, avvenuto due anni prima, subisce anche la perdita del secondogenito Karac, morto a causa di un’infezione alle vie respiratorie. Plant scrive All of my Love e la dedica al bambino, scomparso a soli 5 anni. Nel 1978 i Led Zeppelin sono sconvolti dalla notizia della morte di Sandy Denny, la cantautrice folk inglese che aveva duettato con Plant nel brano The Battle of Evermore. In ultimo, nel 1980 la morte del batterista John Bonham (avvenuta proprio a Boleskine House) porta allo scioglimento definitivo del gruppo e Jimmy Page in tribunale. Il chitarrista era stato accusato di aver officiato un rito sacrificale davanti al corpo dell’ amico John. Page querela tutti e vince la causa, ma decide che è arrivato il momento di vendere la casa.

Schweigaards gate, 56 è l’indirizzo a Oslo di un famoso negozio di dischi, l’Helvete (l’inferno secondo la mitologia scandinava). In questo negozio, negli anni 90, prende piede il Black Metal Inner Circle, un circolo frequentato da vari musicisti della scena black metal scandinava. A fondarlo è Euronymous, chitarrista dei Mayhem, una delle personalità più carismatiche e inquietanti nell’ambiente metal. A frequentare il circolo ci sono dei veri e propri seguaci di Satana, che professano un satanismo vendicativo e anticristiano. I cristiani, secondo l’Inner Circle, sono visti come usurpatori dello spirito genuino della Scandinavia, che è pagana. Tra il 1992 e il 1996 in Norvegia prendono fuoco circa 50 chiese cristiane, tutte in legno, e non vengono risparmiati neanche i cimiteri, con la profanazione di circa 15 mila tombe, i cui arredi vengono portati all’ Helvete ed esposti come trofei. Le foto delle chiese fumanti finiscono addirittura sulle copertine dei dischi dei Mayhem e dei Burzum, e per 4 di questi roghi viene perseguito e condannato Varg Vikernes dei Burzum. Oltre ai roghi e alle profanazioni iniziano a emergere anche differenze sulle linee di condotta tra i vari gruppi metal. La linea di Euronymous è più dura, il satanismo è parte integrante dell’azione degli adepti dell’ Inner Circle. Euronymous non accetta compromessi e di conseguenza taglia fuori gli elementi scomodi. Agli atti vandalici si susseguono tentati omicidi, bombe e suicidi, come quello nel 1991 di Per Yngve Ohlin (detto Dead) cantante dei Mayhem. Tra i primi a giungere sul posto c’è proprio il suo “amico” Euronymous, il quale, ancora prima di chiamare i soccorsi, decide bene di scattare una foto al cadavere di Dead. La foto -modificata graficamente- finisce sulla copertina del bootleg Dawn of the Black Hearts. Ma chi la fa l’aspetti: nel 1993 Euronymous viene ucciso da Varg Vikernes. In seguito a un’ accesa discussione tra i due Varg, ferito da Euronymous, lo massacra e lo uccide utilizzando diversi coltelli dai quali non si separa mai. Dichiarerà di aver agito per legittima difes. Mors tua vita mea. Il tribunale non gli crede e finisce in galera, condannato a 21 anni di carcere, il massimo della pena in Norvegia. Dal 2009 è in libertà vigilata, continua a professare idee estreme ed è diventato padre di ben otto figli.

Helter Skelter and Charles Manson’s madness

In Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood! Tarantino tried to imagine an alternative ending to the massacre of Cielo Drive. But film fiction isn’t nearly monstrous as reality has been. On the night between the 9th and 10th of August 1969, Charles Manson’s family broke into LaBianca residence, and carried out a massacre. Among the victims, there was also the actress Sharon Tate, Roman Polansky’s wife. The director has just shot a film, Rosemary’s Baby, about the born of the Antichrist (and already here… chills!). Sharon was also pregnant, but this didn’t stop the murderous fury of the killers, who slaughtered and disemboweled everyone, prey to a delusional madness similar to a whirlwind carousel (Helter Skelter is the name of an attraction from Luna Park). The writing stood out on the LaBianca refrigerator and was traced with the blood of the victims. Manson claims to have obsessively listened to the Beatles’ White Album and to have understood that in reality the text of Helter Skelter heralds a prophecy about an imminent racial confrontation, in which Blacks would have prevailed over Whites.

The Led Zeppelin and Boleskine House

In Scotland, on the shores of Loch Ness Lake, there is a mysterious residence, Boleskine House. The mansion belonged to a famous occultist, Edward Alexander, better known as Aleister Crowley, the founder of modern Satanism. It seems that Crowley celebrated dark magic rituals in that house and wrote many esoteric books under demoniac dictation. That should already have been a warning to stay away from the “haunted house”, but obviously it was not enough for a great follower of Crowley like Jimmy Page, who in 1970 decided to buy the estate to make it his home. Well, the history of Led Zeppelin seems subtly linked to Boleskine House. In the following years, in addition to success, in fact, there will be world tours canceled due to strange accidents and grief. Among the most disturbing episodes, three of them deserve attention: in 1977 Robert Plant, after having just recovered from a fatal car accident, which occurred two years earlier, also suffered the loss of his second son Karac, who died from a respiratory infection. Plant wrote All of my Love and dedicated it to his son, who passed away at the age of 5. In 1978 Led Zeppelin were shocked by the news of the death of Sandy Denny, the English folk songwriter, who had dueted with Plant in the song The Battle of Evermore. Finally, in 1980 the death of their drummer John Bonham (which took place in Boleskine House) leads to the definitive dissolution of the group and Jimmy Page to court. The guitarist had been accused of having performed a sacrificial ritual in front of the body of his friend John. Page sued everyone and won the case, but decided to sell the house.

Schweigaards gate, 56 is the address of a famous record shop in Oslo, Helvete (the hell, according to Scandinavian mythology). In this shop, during the 90s, took hold the Black Metal Inner Circle, a club frequented by various musicians of the Scandinavian black metal scene. It was founded by Euronymous, guitarist of Mayhem, one of the most charismatic and disturbing personalities in the metal music environment. True Satan’s worshippers joined the club, who professed a vengeful and anti-Christian Satanism. Christians, according to Inner Circle members’ opinion, were seen as usurpers of the true Scandinavian spirit, which was pagan. Between 1992 and 1996, about 50 Christian churches were burnt in Norway, all made of wood, and neither cemeteries were spared, with the desecration of about 15 thousand tombs, whose furnishings were brought to Helvete and exhibited as trophies. The photos of the smoking churches even ended up on the covers of the Mayhem and Burzum records, and for 4 of these fires Varg Vikernes from Burzum is prosecuted and condemned. In addition to the bonfires and desecrations, differences also emerge on the lines of conduct between the various metal groups. Euronymous’s line is harder, Satanism is an integral part of the action of the Inner Circle adepts. Euronymous doesn’t accept compromises and consequently cuts out inconvenient elements. Vandalism is followed by attempted murders, bombs and suicides, such as the 1991 Mayhem singer Per Yngve Ohlin (called Dead). Among the first to arrive on the spot is his “friend” Euronymous, who, even before calling for help, decided well to take a photo of Dead’s corpse. The photo – graphically modified – ended up on the cover of the bootleg Dawn of the Black Hearts. But in 1993 Euronymous was killed by Varg Vikernes. Following a heated discussion between the two, Varg, injured by Euronymous, massacred and killed him using several knives from which he never separated. He will declare that he acted in legitimate defense. The court didn’t believe him and Vikernes ended up in jail, sentenced to 21 years in prison, the maximum sentence in Norway. Since 2009 he has been on probation, continues to profess extreme ideas and became father of eight children.
